Conceived and designed by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in May 1990, the Temple of Great Contemplation stands on the slopes of Mount Labbro. Situated in a propitious position on a hill, with a series of hills arranged in a crown in the middle of a valley, its location was carefully chosen according to the criteria of Tibetan geomancy. Built in wood, glass and copper in an octagonal shape, it was decorated in the traditional style of Tibetan art.
