Museum of the Medieval Landscape

The Museum of the Medieval Landscape is located in Arcidosso’s Aldobrandesca Fortress, which dates back to the 10th century and is one of the oldest medieval castles in Italy and Europe. The museum tour traces the origins and history of the fortress and the medieval landscape that surrounded it, giving visitors an extensive and accessible presentation of local and regional archaeological history. The history of the fortress is recounted through an archaeological-artistic journey which unfolds the mysteries of the medieval buildings and the historical characters who commissioned them. The gallery dedicated to the medieval landscape of Amiata and Maremma houses archaeological unearthed at Stribugliano site in Castel Vaiolo. Other sections contain exhibits illustrating the architecture and urban planning of the medieval historical centers of Amiata and the Fiora Valley, and the formation of Aldobrandesco county.
