Poggio Contrada

The colours of the Poggio district are yellow and green with red trim. The district is comprised of what is now known as the old town, including the Piana, Capezzuolo, Penna and Palazzo quarters which are situated around the castle and the historic centre, the nucleus of the oldest part of the settlement. Surrounded by the natural landscape of the Val d’Orcia, the old town is well preserved, its ancient streets running past the village’s ancient houses, churches and historic buildings. The festival of Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ), the patron of the Poggio district, is celebrated on 8th August in the church of the same name (Chiesa del SS. Corpo di Cristo). The "Rossi" represent the district’s nobility, including the Prior of the "Lira Maggiore" and the chamberlain.
