Signs and symbols associated with the poor knights of Christ, better known as the Templars, include: forked crosses, the tree of life, the sun in the circle, the pentagon and the rose. Carved into the stones of some buildings in Monticello Amiate, there are signs that can be traced back to noble Sienese families, brotherhoods, lay companies, and even the Templars. In fact, many symbols and coats of arms carved in stone attributable to the Templars have been found by citizens on the facades, door jambs and windows of Monticello’s ancient houses. The House Museum’s walking tour includes information signs dotted around the historic centre’s streets, which reveal esoteric traces linkable to the Templars and the Cult of St Michael.
