The Mineralogical Museum

The Mineralogical Museum of Semproniano has over 300 specimens and objects from all over the world and is the only museum of its kind which is entirely dedicated to mineralogy. Founded by a group of private individuals and inaugurated on 4 August 2007, it offers a collection of rare, high quality pieces – the result of research and collection at national and local level.

The museum is divided into exhibition rooms, with minerals classified by geographical areas of origin. Special information panels describe the composition and origin of the minerals, explain the geomorphology of the territory, and portray the mining activities of Monte Amiata and the neighboring area. Of particular interest among the materials on display are Catabbio's "Strawberries of Cinnabar", the "Opal" of Santa Fiora and a piece of Florite from Roccabegna.
