In the first room of the museum, the visitor can observe a model which illustrates the main mining sites of Monte Amiata. The model also indicates the period of industrial exploitation and highlights the importance of the mountain aquifer. Another panel features a geological map indicating the volcanic nature of the area. Both exhibits allow the visitor to visualize the geographical location of the mines opened in the Amiata area, relative to the different distributions of cinnabar in the subsoil. Another panel illustrates the ancient history of the exploitation of cinnabar.
