The charcoal burner cycle

The profession of the charcoal burner was closely connected to the mountain economy. Immediately after the trees in the forest had been felled in the spring, the charcoal burner moved to the area with his family and built a hut where he could live for the entire period of charcoal production.  The cut wood was placed in a clearing where it was covered with branches, turf and leaves, on which terracotta was spread, forming a cone with a hole on the top. Finally, the most difficult part of the work began – burning the wood so that it did not become ash, but charcoal. At the end of the burning process, the charcoal was collected, freed of slag and debris, packaged and shipped for subsequent sale.
