The hamlet of Montegiovi Museum: "Arte a Parte" (Separate Art) Garden by Piero Bonacina

The Garden of Piero Bonacina is located in Villa Clara, in the lower part of the town of Montegiovi. Originally from the province of Lecco, Piero Bonacina was a traveller and scholar of the East who settled in the Amiata region in order to follow Tibetan master Namkhai Norbu, the founder of Merigar West. A self-taught sculptor, he created the art garden in a panoramic spot overlooking the valley of the Ente and Zancona rivers, with a view of Mount Labbro. Visitors to the garden are greeted with a simple environment consisting of a garden of olive trees, other plants and cats. The works of art on display are made out of materials such as metal, concrete, stone, wood, Manciano sandstone and Saturnia travertine, and have allegorical shapes that pay homage to great contemporary artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Constantin Brâncuși, Henry Moore and Marcel Duchamp. It is also worth visiting the artist's house, with its the laboratory containing sketched works and tools, and interior spaces furnished with sculptures and colourful paintings.
