Parco dei Cigni

Parco dei Cigni (Swan Park) is a place of memory and tradition. The park is situated on part of the Campogrande diatomaceous earth quarry, where calcium carbonate called Latte di Luna was extracted and processed, both in the quarries and in the factories, from 1913 to 1978. Miners often paid with their lives for their years spent in the mine due to the very fine powder of diatomaceous earth (fossil shell flour), a dust that causes silicosis – a lung disease typical of miners, which is in many cases lethal or disabling.
